Types of Therapy

  • Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that views the mind as composed of distinct subpersonalities or "parts," each with its own perspective and role, and seeks to integrate and harmonize these parts to promote healing and self-understanding.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a trauma-focused therapeutic technique that involves guided eye movements to help individuals process and integrate distressing memories and emotions, facilitating emotional healing and recovery. Other trauma-focused therapy techniques include Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Polyvagal therapy, and more.

  • Play Therapy

Play therapy is a creative therapeutic approach to help children express and explore their inner experiences, emotions, and conflicts through symbolic play. There are many approaches to play therapy including Directive, Filial, Group, Child-Centered, Attachment-Based, Trauma-Informed, and others. Our play therapy space in Nairobi is well-equipped with a variety of toys including sand-tray, puppets and dolls, art supplies, and other tactile manipulatives.

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy

Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) is a therapeutic approach rooted in the science of emotion and attachmen. EFT helps clients identify and transform the negative processing and interaction patterns that create distress, facilitating the creation of secure, vibrant connection with self and others. It’s effective in treating individuals (EFIT), couples (EFCT), and families (EFFT).

Other Services

“I underestimated how challenging it would be to adjust to the mission field, but with the guidance at Tumaini Counselling Centre, I was able to regain my focus and find renewed strength through a Christ-focused perspective.”

Please note that service availability may vary due to staffing limitations. Additionally, there may be instances where, after an initial assessment or course of treatment, it becomes necessary to refer you to another provider. Your clinician will discuss this with you in detail should the need arise.
