Sarah Sandoz
I am a social worker with nearly a decade of mental health experience. I moved to Kenya in 2017 and have been able to spend extensive time in South Sudan and parts of North Africa. Through my own personal experience living cross culturally I have seen the need for both preventative care and restorative care for global workers.
COUNSELLOR
Lydia Klassen
I joined Tumaini in October 2022 as a licensed clinical professional counselor because I have a deep desire to walk alongside missionaries who long to see God work through their brokenness. My specialties include marital counseling, using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and trauma care, as I am trained in EMDR. I’ve also been blessed with intercultural experience that helps me connect with clients from diverse backgrounds.
COUNSELLOR
Ruth Mahood
I am a counsellor and psychotherapist who joined Tumaini in February 2024 after serving as a physiotherapist with the Karamojong, an unreached people group in northeastern Uganda. This experience of ministry in a remote, cross-cultural setting informs my work as a counsellor. This experience also enabled me to recognize the importance of both preventive and restorative mental health care for missionaries.
COUNSELLOR
Jan
I am a licensed clinical social worker from the US and an adult TCK. Having learned first hand some of the challenges on the field, my background fuels my passion about supporting missionary children and families. My goal is to enhance growth and resilience to handle family and cross-cultural challenges. The gospel of Christ, prayer and the Truth of scripture inform my work. With empathy, acceptance, openess, compassion, faith and a listening ear, I walk alongside clients for their healing and health.
COUNSELLOR
Breanna Thompson
As a Canadian missionary who relocated to Nairobi, Kenya, to teach in 2017, I bring a unique perspective to my counseling work, shaped by my personal experiences navigating cultural transitions and living abroad. My transition from teaching to counseling was driven by a profound interest in holistic wellness and a desire to support individuals facing anxiety, depression, and cultural adaptation struggles. This journey led me to pursue a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Yorkville University.
FAMILY DOCTOR AND COUNSELLOR
Alison Bosson
I am a family doctor, or general medical practitioner, from the UK and, after working there for 30 years, my husband and I moved to Uganda in 2021. I was a general physician in a busy rural mission hospital in Zambia for one year in 1990 and I experienced the joys and struggles of cross-cultural ministry and the ways in which workers were able to thrive on the field. As a family doctor I developed skills in all aspects of primary health care including mental health, and latterly I trained in Christian integrative counselling.

I enjoy walking alongside people from different nations and I am passionate about seeing them grow into their God-given potential. Additionally, I am involved in staff care and orientation of new medical personnel from my sending organisation (GMMT). I rejuvenate by outdoor activities, laughter and cooking together.
