Self-Injury
Self-Injury is different from being suicidal. Rather than trying to end one’s life the person who uses self-injury uses the behavior as a way to cope with emotional distress they experience. Reliance on self-abuse/maltreatment of one’s body can keep one from growing in healthier patterns of managing the stresses of life.
